Emily McDaniel - LoTS #3

Lane makes a solid argument of what it really means to appreciate a sacred place for what it is. He even includes it as one of his main axioms. You can go into a sacred place with out really entering into it, and this is true even for those sacred places not within nature. Take a church for example. A person of a different religion entering into a church will see the ornaments and place of worship and appreciate it for what they see solely with their eyes. They might not understand the significance within the imagery or purpose for anything there, and this stops them from really entering into it. It would take more explanation from someone who knows for them to enter into it. Technically though, if what they see inspires them, the place could become sacred to them in a sense that’s different than what others had intended. They might make connections to their own religion and see it in their mind as a distant sacred place for themselves.
