Robert Lannes: Natural Setting
Near my house in Leesburg, Virginia, there is a trail that I have walked many times. A few times with my family, a few times with my friends, and once by myself. Its located behind this old plantation, and is very beautiful. If you follow this path far enough, it leads you to this large cliff that overlooks part of the potomac river. This place is a location I would consider sacred, in the phenomenological approach, because of its natural beauty, and the connection you get when you are there. There is a green fence that blocks you from getting closer to the edge, but I climb over the fence to get a better look. The cliff edge has to be at least a hundred feet off of the ground, giving you a great view of the river and the surrounding forest. I have always been able to just relax, clear my mind and think at this spot. I have had many meaningful conversations here with those that have come with me, and have come to meaningful conclusions important to my personal life at this spot.
