Emma Byers: Image of Pilgrimage 3

The book discussed the ideas of an outcome when it came to a pilgrimage ending. To tribal religions an outcome was set for the person experiencing it, so there was a predetermined idea of what the person should experience and expectations of how their spiritual journey should play out. Historical religions did not have any predetermined expectations. Anything that they thought to be a miracle was attributed to God and his power. This idea leads me to ponder my own beliefs about my religion. In my opinion the idea of predestination for a sacred journey takes away the entire experience. You cannot expect to have something happen to you; the land must choose you itself and give you your own special experience.
