Joe Conway Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture Post #2
In the text, Turner discusses how pilgrimage shrines in principal centers of peace and communitas are often involved in social and political conflicts of great vehemence and intensity. This seemed odd to me, since these shrines were supposed to be gathering places for peace and community. But the more i thought about it, the more it made sense to me since these shrines are natural gathering places for conflict. These shrines would also bring the most intensity out of people, since they believe the place to be sacred or important to them.
