Gennep talked about the process of going through a rite of passage; Separation,
Limen, and Aggregation. This was particularly interesting to me because it
almost makes spiritual moments into something scientific which were two things
I never put together. In order for you to have a complete experience you must
detach yourself from the world you know, a group or culture (separation) in
which you then enter into a completely new realm (limen) and then, once your
experience is over, come back down to the world you broke away from
(aggregation). I have yet to have such an experience where I have felt like I
have been close to another world but I feel, after taking this class, that one
day I will.
