Emma Byers: Image of Pilgrimage 2

The book looked into the differences between Historical and Tribal religions which was another reading that caught my interest. Tribal religions focused on a group of people taking in another individual with the completion of a rite of passage or acceptance into the group. These religions would experience the liminal stage during their rite of passage and continue to devote themselves to the group. Historical group however focus on the individual and the morals they possess and acceptance of one’s self, not the group as a whole. Tribal religions believe that they need to stay in the place in which they have received their affliction because it will bring healing to them while the historical religions believe that they need to leave their place of affliction and seek healing on a journey or in a divine place.
