Liz Cathey: Outside Reading 3

I stumbled upon my last outside source while researching for my term paper.  I was absolutely floored when I read an exert from the scholarly journal, "Sacred Nature: Earth-Based Spirituality As Popular Religion In The Pacific Northwest” by Mark A. Shibley.  The article discusses how there is an “un-churchy” feel in the Pacific Northwest region, but that does not mean that it is void of religion. It has become very popular for the residents of this area to seek out their own religion, and the trend has been to find it through nature, thereby, making the nature in this region sacred.  Through almost a doubling of this area’s religious population, it has drawn attention to the fact that many are finding religion in nature, giving the people a broader acceptance of religious diversity.  I really enjoyed reading about how religion does not always have to be confined to places of established worship, because that is something that I have always believed.
