Courtney Pauls- Cold Fever

A few weeks ago, we watched a film called Cold Fever. The film was about a Japanese business man who travels to Iceland in order to perform a ritual for his dead parents. The journey to perform this ritual for his parents sends the man on a journey to truly find himself. By the end of the film, the man has a new found respect for ritual and sacred place. I felt like Lane’s second axiom, sacred place is ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary, is very prevalent in the film. There are a few places that look like normal places, but they are made extraordinary due to ritual. The first ritual that the man stumbles upon is in the small little shack where the taxi driver stops. The building seems  extremely ordinary, but once one went inside, the ritual made it extraordinary.
