Hunter Bronder: religion and nature

In this class, we looked at nature and landscapes as sacred. We learned a lot about different trails and looked into how some of them bring a spiritual feeling. Usually when I would think of a hiker or someone who likes to be in nature, I think of someone adventurous or a hippy of some sort. However when I think of hippies I often think of free spirits and someone who is not really a follower of any one specific religion. This is why I found it weird that so many people who hike trails do it for spiritual reason. When talking to some friends about this we came up with the idea that maybe to some people the journey is spiritual but not so much religious. Hikers may just want to feel some sort of greater being but not necessarily say its “God”. I would like to one day talk to some people on a trail that I would consider "hippies" and see what they have to say.
