Lane's Axioms, Evan Moog

The four axioms that Lane gives in his book help student better understand sacred places. The first axiom is that a place chooses and is not chosen. The second is that it is an ordinary place made extraordinary through rituals. The third axiom is it can be walked on with out being entered. and the last axiom is that there is both a centripetal and centrifugal forces at a sacred place. These ideas help better understand the idea of a sacred place. It is a very unique kind of place to choose itself. Many people may walk on it, such as Taj Mahal, but not enter it. It is only sacred to the people that it has influenced through ritual or tradition. The two forces that a sacred place I have dealt with in my daily life. The experience of God's sacredness, I want to know more about it yet I want to tell others about it and I cannot do both at the same time. These ideas help me better understand what a sacred place is.
