Liz Cathey: Class Reading 1

In Turner's book, Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture, the point is raised that the beginning and true origin of pilgrimage is unknown.  I found this to be extremely intriguing.  How could such an essential concept to our class have an unknown origin?  It is a practice so broadly laid out over a varied types of faith, that it is nearly impossible to pin-point onto one culture or religion.  I guess that it does not matter, because pilgrimages are special and unique to the person embarking on them.
