Liz Cathey: Class Reading 2
In Lane's book Landscapes of the Sacred, the tension that can arise between a space and place is discussed. At first, I found this to be a very confusing idea, because I did not know how two things that I previously thought to be so similar could possibly have tension. I thought about it for quite some time and began to picture a city. While the city may be big, it is bustling full of people, cars, building, and chaos. There is not much "room to breathe" in these areas. I am from Chincoteague Island, a tiny three-by-seven mile long island. While it is a very small place, it is full of natural beauty, and absent of the crowded aspects of the city.
