Nicolas Maxim: Outside Source: Trail Journals

In one journal I read, the hiker stated that the Camino de Santiago changed his outlook on life. He mentioned that there was a great sense of companionship along the trail. He made many friends while hiking on the trail, and learned a lot about himself. There are a couple of things that could have played a part in the changing of his outlook on life. When looking at Lane’s theories we could say that the landscape chose him. He had an open mind so the landscape appealed to him, and awed him more than others who traveled the Camino. When on a pilgrimage such as the Camino, one is with others who are there for the same reason. This gives the person motivation and reason to carry on. With this motivation also comes friendship, which is what he described in his journal. I just hope one day I can experience the same thing that he did while on the AT.
