Pilgrimage as a Liminoid Place
The end of chapter one really points out what the modern pilgrim had be come. It exemplifies how the purpose of the pilgrimage has change and the means by which it is conducted has also changed. It directly relates them to other vacation destination. I have seen this in my own experiences. When I traveled to Rome in the summer of 2008 I experienced something that was far from what I had expected. I had thought the trip to one of the holiest place in Rome would incur some religious feeling. I was mildly disappointed with what I had found. The amount of tourist with no sense of reverence was amazingly large and truly appalling. The idea that some of the most sacred trips have been belittled to little more than a wax museum
