tylor lang A Tale of Two Cities

As I read A Tale of Two Cities I am reminded of the movie Stark Trek: The Wrath of Khan.  Similar to the ending of the story in A Tale of Two Cities, at the end of Wrath of Khan, Spock, the right hand man of Captain Kirk, sacrifices himself to save the rest of the star-ship Enterprise crew.
Sydney, the character that sacrifices himself at the end of the book to save a family said "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known."
Spock, the one who sacrificed himself at the end of the movie to save the crew said "It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."
These two stories, although set ages apart, hold to them similar message; that the weight of putting others before yourself will always be heavy, but the burden of regret for not doing so is heavier.
