Emily Jackson Dunlop- Image and Pilgrimage

Turner's book Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture, the fact that many religions and not just Christianity share pilgrimages in their culture. Followers of Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism partake in the act of pilgrimage as well as some people who are not religious at all. Non religious travelers often have a sense of spirituality, whatever there beliefs may be, that drives them to experience and complete a pilgrimage. This is a tradition that occurs all over the world. All these religions have many differences and similarities, and one similarity is the act of pilgrimage. Pilgrimage in each culture, of course, has its differences as well. But people as a whole connect in the liminal state of being, regardless of race, religion, gender, or social class when they are on a pilgrimage together.
