Snyder's Medieval Art written by Dorothy Verkerk and Henry Luttikhuizen has a great section on the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It begins by
describing the pilgrimage routes to Santiago. It continues to state that “The
Way of Saint James” was a long and difficult journey taking months to complete.
An interesting point about the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is that the
façade we see today is not what would have greeted the pilgrims of the 11th
century. While the interior remains Romanesque in style, the façade has changed
many times. The book continues to describe many other architectural
aspects of Santiago such as sculptures and carvings of religious figures all over the cathedral.
