Jem Kamran- Water & Wind - Post # 4

Water & Wind
I am sitting here at York River Beach watching the waves hit the shore. Actually they are not so much hitting the shore but rather rippling toward the sandy shore. I love watching the water move it has sort of calming effect on me. At the same time I feel so insignificant when compared to the constant motion of the water. As though the time and I is standing still while the invisible inherent power of the water propels it back and forth. This feeling of insignificance is intensified with the strong winds that attempt to blow me away. I understand why the characteristics of wind and water and often liken to the power of God.  They seem to have a pull that draws one in but at the same both can be intense enough to over power a human. Sitting here reminds me of our class discussion on Poseidon the God of Sea. It is no wonder that humans have thought from the very beginning that this power came from some the divine power. Only the gods can control the unpredictable power of wind and water. Even in the Bible it says that Jesus calmed the storm and water and wind died down and it was completely calm. For the gods to be able to control such powers adds to the mystery and the fascination of mere humans to the divine power.
