Keely Johnson: Grandview Park

Down in Hampton there is a nature preserve beach and marsh that the Biology department at CNU likes to frequent for lab exercises. This beach is 100% natural and is not a tourist destination. It is overgrown and wild like it was always meant to be. The first time I went there, a giant storm was blowing in and the wind was gusting at about 30 mph. We still had lab even though it was lightning. Being out on the exposed beach in the middle of the storm made me feel small and unimportant in the presence of this being. The furry and passion felt in that moment humbled me and really stuck with me. Nature was meant to be untouched by the dirty hands of man.
