Landscapes of the Sacred Post #4 - Matt Marquand
The second approach is cultural approach, this
approach is concentrated on the culture of a place and the conflict a place
creates. The cultural approach defines a
place where conflicting parties disagree.
The advantage of this approach is it emphasizes social science in sacred
places. This approach concentrates on the tensions that a place creates and how people will fight to protect a sacred place. Examples of this approach are battlefields that are being threatened by commerce and construction projects. Conservationists want to protect the battlefields and claim it is scared and special while others believe it is insignificant. This conflict is exactly the approach that interest cultural historians.
