Mary Lauren Smith - Topic of My Choosing - The Open Ocean

I chose to write about the ocean because it's a wide open area where one human being can be completely alone, yet feel completely safe and full of warmth. I love sitting on my father's boat, with no care in the world, laying back and feeling the hot sun on my face. I love to fish with my grandfather's old fishing rods and play with the minnows in the bucket near the motor. These are the times that are the most memorable, that I would do anything to repeat again. There's just nothing like sitting in a boat in the middle of nowhere, watching birds fly over head, hearing the waves smacking the boat, and the laughs of my father. This place is sacred to me because it's where my father, grandfather, and I could be ourselves and forget about reality.
