Richard Robertson Landscapes of the Sacred 1

Richard Robertson Landscapes of the Sacred 1
A Chosen Place and a Pilgrim People

Lane examines the pilgrimage of the New England puritans. He looks at the similarities there share with Jewish people of Israel, another journeying people of God. The puritans had an internal conflict trying to conclude if this was truly the place where god wished them to land. I would have to ask myself the same question. If I was truly part of Gods chosen people I would not want to stop prematurely. Again, if I was truly par of Gods chosen people where I would land would be predetermined. I have no control over these things. Some pointed to the idea that heaven is the only true home and until then we are all journeying. With this thought process it really didn't matter where they landed at all. Just that the ideals by which they lived survived. Before it is mentioned in the text one can tell that this is pointing to the idea of the difference between space and place. Is this space relative if they have place? They still have place while they are on their ships, but there is a lack of space.
