Samantha Rogers: Noland Trail Short Essay

While out on the Noland Trail we learned to take in the true beauty of nature. We looked at the formations of the trees, beauty of locus blooms, and the medium prospect and far prospect.  These things you learn to look at when you are truly feeling nature and letting yourself become one with the wildlife.
There was one particular tree that stood out to me. It had a deformation at the bottom of its trunk, as if it had a disease. This reminds me of human beings and how close nature relates to our lives. Just because it was a tree doesn’t mean that it can’t have the same issues that we go through. There was even a set of trees that grew together as one. They intertwined together with their branches and grew as if they were mates.
The locus blooms were possibly one of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. They literally took my break away when I saw them. The pure and innocent flowers that glow baby pink and white grow up from the ground with immense beauty. I felt a connection to the flowers and they way the flowed in the breeze with calm serenity.
The medium prospect and far prospect were definitely felt while walking the Noland Trail. The medium prospect was felt when on the one side of the bridge. When I looked over all I saw was enclosed land with thick trees. It made me feel a bit trapped and nervous. The far prospect was on the other side of the bridge. When you looked out you saw the open water. It was extremely peaceful and calming. There was no sense of feeling trapped because you had the water extending for a good distance.
Overall, the trip to the Noland Trail was an experience that I will never forget. I had never really looked at the beauty of nature and this time I took it all in and felt a real connection. This connection does not happen every time, just when you open yourself up and allow for the connection to happen.
