Lane explains that there are two Greek words for "place" and for "time." For "place," there are the words "topos" and "chora" which communicate completely separate ideas about place. Topos describes place as a point no different than any other. A place in this sense, therefore, is just a fixed amount of space, with no particular influence or authority. Chora, on the other hand, describes an energized place that has the ability to affect its inhabitants.
The Greek words for time "kairos" and "chronos" parallel these words. Chronos describes time as being constantly moving, with each and every moment being precisely equal. Kairos, however, describes a particular moment that is unrepeatable, that has great significance in a persons life. As Lane explains, experiencing both kairos and chora at the same times is to "encounter wonder."
