For my reading, I read a blog posted by a hiker in the middle of hiking the AT. The hiker chronicles her story so far on the trail, and focuses on her experience with a fellow female hiker that she and her group had met after a few weeks on the trail. This woman hiked with the group for a while, and the blogger explained that she helped transform her whole views on the hike and the trail. The blogger had previously been in some doubt of her ability to hike the entire trail, and she said that this new friend had helped make her more confident.
This blog demonstrates the communitas aspect of the AT. Its cool to see how people who are so different (the two woman were different ages, weren't from the same area, and had different amounts of education), and under other circumstances may never have met, were able to become such good friends in a quick amount of time.
