Wesley Carey: Outside Reading #2

I decided to read a blog written by a hiker who was a few days into his hike on the Appalachian trail. In it, the hiker details his first couple days on the trail and explains that the hike for him is about going from one point to another in two separate ways. Physically, he wants to get from Springer Mountain to Mount Katahdin. Mentally, he wants to change from an academic lifestyle to a career-oriented lifestyle. He says that he believes the challenge of hiking of the AT will be instrumental in changing his life and his attitude.

In this blog, we can get a clear sense of the liminality that we talked about in class. This hiker is on the threshold between two different points in his life and its very interesting to get his perspective on his situation after just a few days on the trail.
