Wesley Carey: Wilderness Therapy

Wilderness therapy is at type of therapy that incorporates wilderness expeditions as a form of intervention.  Having an interest in psychology, I believe wilderness therapy is extremely interesting. I also see some of the rationale behind wilderness therapy, as I believe the wilderness has many therapeutic qualities. One can learn how to be independent and self-reliant. Additionally, the challenges that one faces in the wilderness can definitely boost self-esteem and one's concept of their worth. Also, the wilderness often provides a peaceful atmosphere in which one can think clearly. I wonder how effective wilderness therapy is, however, as compared to a more traditional form of therapy. I also wonder if there are any specific conditions that wilderness therapy has shown to be especially effective in combating.
