Zachary Kuhn: Choice #2 Sri Lanka

While doing some research the other day I came across this article about the Sri Lankan government removing a mosque because it was on land that was sacred. I found this very interesting for many reasons, but I thought it was interesting that even though the structure on the land was a religious building the people still wanted it moved because of the land it was on. The people considered the land to be very sacred, and wanted to keep the land preserved to the point where they did not even want a mosque on it. This really shows the power of sacred space and the influence that it has on people. It can be seen that people respect and adore sacred place, and they do not want any outside force tampering with it. This also shows the importance of sacred place in different cultures. Sacred place seems to be equally important to people no matter what their culture or race.
