Zachary Kuhn: Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture #3

Communitas is a subject talked about in Turner & Turners book that I find very interesting. The bonding that people can experience on pilgrimage is one that cannot be experienced by any other means, and is one that can bond people for life. The idea of being able to leave all of the social hierarchy and regulations of society, and fully immerse oneself in a relationship with others is one that seems almost unreal. When on a pilgrimage all of the social norms and hierarchies that apply to every day life go right out the window, which opens up possibilities of experiencing relationships that cannot be experienced any where else. Communitas brings people together in ways that are unrivaled by any other social experience, which just adds to the wonder and possibilities that pilgrimages offer.
