Zachary Kuhn: Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture #2

Turner & Turner mention that "There is no simple answer to the question of how pilgrimages begin" (Turner & Turner pg. 32) which is an interesting look at different pilgrimages and their origins. There are certain pilgrimages which can be traced back to their start and why they were started, but then there are others that cannot and have no clear reason why they started. This is interesting because it shows the variety in pilgrimages and what their purpose is. Many people feel that pilgrimage is strictly religious, but this shows that there are pilgrimages that are not religious and have no clear religious connection. This is also supportive of the idea that sacred space via pilgrimage can be experienced through both religious and non religious means.
