Zachary Kuhn: Outside- Newspaper

I was reading an article in The Colby Reader that was discussing a very interesting mindset that most people have about nature. It discussed that the two main ways that people think about nature are causing us to have skewed thoughts and emotions towards the wilderness. The author believed that most people either view nature as complete untouchable wilderness that is sacred, or an area that is a wasteland and that is waiting to be developed by man. These two ideas seem to cause a way of thinking about nature that could be potentially dangerous to the environment and our thought process. Viewing nature as just another place for us to build houses and malls is obviously damaging in that it will destroy nature and in time will eradicate all traces of nature and wilderness. The that nature is untouchable sacred wilderness is also dangerous because it makes people think that sacred place is untouchable and unattainable. If there was an accepted way of thinking that was in the middle and balanced would our view of the world and the world as a whole be different?
