Courtney Pauls- Lane's Second Axiom

Lane’s second axiom is that “sacred place is ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary”. Lane is explaining that a what seems normal place can but turned into an extraordinary place by the form of a ritual. There are many examples of this axiom, but I have a personal experience to share. I am a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a female music business fraternity. Every semester, we hold an initiation process which is a form of ritual. We always end up using a room that most of us spend every day in. To most, this room is a plain, old, boring room, but to my sisters and me, it has a different meaning. That room is where we experienced a ritual and where we form this close bond with each other and music. To most, people that room may seem ordinary, but to a select few, it is extraordinary.
