Courtney Pauls- Route 66

Dr. Redick asked us to think of why someone would put a Route 66 sign on top of a monument. In class, we can to the conclusion that the sign was there in remembrance of someone. Maybe that person liked to travel Route 66 or he/she love the song Route 66. The possibilities are endless for the reason that sign was left. Also, we talked about the empty beer bottle. Maybe that type of beverage was someone’s favorite drink. We also discussed how maybe that person’s friend performed some type of ritual by drinking the beer at the top of the mountain before he placed it there in order to feel like he was drinking with his friend. We also talked about the memorial that was left on the Appalachian Trail with the toilet by it. Someone left that toilet there because it had a special meaning and connection to the person who died. All of this talk of leaving a symbol to represent someone had me thinking of what I would want left for me. It is a rather grim thought, but I think I would want something left that pertains to music.
