Courtney Pauls- "Walking with Freedom" and Communitas

In class we watched a film called “Walking with Freedom”. Lion King made a movie about his hike of the Appalachian Trail. I really liked this video because it showed the strong sense of communitas on the trail. Most of these people just met each other on the trail, but formed these strong bonds and friendships. A big part of communitas is that the bonds are formed spontaneously and are not forced. The film showed various relationships that were spontaneously formed and nothing was forced. Everyone seemed to be forming friendships with one another. I remember the girl who was joking around with the false teeth by the fire. Lion King did not previously know her, but they spontaneously formed a relationship. It was interesting to see how communitas lives on the Appalachian Trail.
