Hunter Bronder: Sacred place

“A sacred space is not merely discovered, or founded, or constructed; it is claimed, owned, and operated by people advancing specific interest (Lane).” Since the beginning of the class we learned Churches aren’t really sacred places. I always wondered why, because some of the reasons didn’t always seem to make sense. This passage made me realize that churches are usually built on land that is in a good location and cheap for the people of the specific church. This seemed to match the first part by being “discovered, or founded, or constructed.” The land is never really claimed or owned because of something that happened there. Looking at it from this perspective gave me a better reasoning as to why churches aren’t considered sacred.
