At one point in the book, Lane is
talking about a trip to DC when he visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He
said during his trip he found that the memorial could be considered sacred
because it met much of the criteria to his vision of “sacred”. Having visited
the memorial before and remembering it giving me a similar feeling, I found
this interesting. Why do most of the other memorials not give this feeling? I
thought about it and I think its because at other memorials people talk and
take lots of pictures but this one is different. It’s almost built into the
ground and seems to sit away from the rest of the mall. People don’t talk as
much either because it seems more of a place to reflect or remember. Ultimately
this was interesting because even at a young age when I visited this memorial,
I got the feeling of holy and sacred that I didn’t get at other ones.
