Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture #1 - Matt Marquand
At first I was alittle confused how pilgrimage could be a liminoid phenomenon, I didn't even know what a liminoid phenomenon was. After reading the first chapter, I discovered pilgrimage has some of the liminal phase in passage rites. The release from mundane structure, simplicity of dress and behavior and the developing of communitas are all similarities. This is a very new concept to me, as I would imagine with most members of society. The thought of going on a pilgrimage is unheard of. I couldn't imagine backpacking along a trail for days at a time, staying in inns specifically for people on pilgrimages. It would be an experiance unlike any other.
