Rebecca Johnson: Noland Trail

Noland Trail
A few weeks ago, we took a class trip to the Noland Trail. We walked as a group for roughly ten minutes and then continued on at our own pace. Our instructions were simple, observe what’s around you and explore until you reach something of a realization. I did not find anything I would deem truly profound, however I did realized something different in my attitude and the atmosphere around me. I also realized how much people change and become more on guard when they are in natural settings, even if it wasn’t a vast wilderness. It’s funny because people have become so used to our more “civilized” way of life that we tend to get strangely uncomfortable when dealing with nature.
It was strange to me that we could be so out of place when we were in such natural surroundings. For as smart as humans are, we aren’t always the smartest out in the woods, occasionally stomping our way into poison ivy plants or getting bit by snakes. Our awareness kicks into full gear when we wander out into nature, or at least it should. I think we should all spend some more time outside, whether that be taking long walks or running along the trail, head back into nature, get a better perspective on life.
