Jordan Snider-Lanes first Axiom
In lanes book, he says the first axiom is: a sacred place is not chosen, but chooses you. I thought this was very cool because when most people talk about sacred places, they talk like they chose that place to be sacred rather than it choosing them. However, I guess what Lane is trying to say is that you can go to a sacred place thinking it will be sacred to you, but never experience anything at all. The place has to choose you in order for you to feel the subjective threshold or be in a place of in between. In other words, people cannot seek places for sacredness, the places have to choose them. It is then they weill be able to experience the liminality and ritual of a place. I liked this axiom because it cleared up what I had originally thought about sacred places. I think its cool that a place has the ability to choose you.
