Mary Lauren Smith - Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture
In this book, what I found was interesting and important was the different cultures and languages that were experienced over this journey. Professor Redick discussed his adventure on the Appalachian trail and all the different people he encountered and learned about. Everyone was different in their own ways, but what they shared was their love and appreciation for the trail, and their desire to hike it together and accomplish that goal of completion. People set out of all ages, genders, religions, backgrounds, etc. come together and embark on this sacred journey. A term that the author uses called "communitas" is one that means embarking on this journey and leaving your previous life and world behind to walk into the world of the wilderness.
