Liminality

Turner expresses the idea of liminality in his book. When a person is in a state of liminality, they are in the in-between stage. It is described as being in the threshold. Images come to my mind of a person standing on top of a mountain. They are still attached to the earth, but they are separated from all the human aspects. They are in between the earth and some divine power. Liminality can be likened to birth or death.
